Battery Usage and Maintenance
Baterry
- The newly purchased battery needs to be recharged before use because before the battery is sold, there is a phenomenon of self-discharge (every battery has a self-discharge phenomenon), which leads to a drop in voltage and insufficient battery storage capacity. The method of charging the battery is as follows: charge the battery on your new vehicle with a special charger until the green light comes on.
- Charging must be done using a charger that is compatible with the battery’s parameters.
- Considering that lead-acid batteries are affected by temperature, when the temperature is low during winter, the electrochemical reaction inside the battery is not as intense, causing the power during charging to not reach the ideal standard. Therefore, try to ensure that the charging is completed in an area with higher temperature.
- The battery should be charged promptly after use, and the charging time should be determined based on the distance traveled – the longer the distance, the longer the charging time, otherwise, it is shorter. The charging time should be monitored within 4-12 hours. The charging time should be shortened during the summer. Generally, after the indicator on the charger turns green, subsequent float charging can continue for 1-2 hours, but the charging must not be prolonged. The best (optimal) charging is when after each ride and distance traveled, you reach 50%-70%.
Bicycle Riding
- When starting an electric bicycle, since the battery can easily be damaged due to high power consumption during static start, it should be started with low current. Do not immediately turn the throttle to maximum speed.
- During the ride of an electric bicycle, it is advisable to try to avoid various forms of high-current discharges, such as carrying heavy objects while riding, riding in strong winds, riding on uneven roads, uphill riding, frequent braking, etc.
Storage
- When frequently charged, every battery exhibits a self-discharge phenomenon, which is particularly noticeable in the battery installed on an electric vehicle. Therefore, if the vehicle is not used for a long time, you must fully charge the battery at least once every two weeks.
- Disabling the alarm. The alarm for an electric vehicle is usually activated when the power is turned off, and at that moment, it appears that the electric bicycle is not in use, but the alarm is in operational mode. Depending on the power, there is generally continuous discharge of 0.2-0.5 A, and if the alarm is not turned off, the battery will be out of control and gradually discharge.
- Avoid exposing the electric vehicle to wind, sun, and rain, as poor environmental conditions lead to corrosion of electric vehicle components, especially the wiring in the battery box becoming damp, leading to increased resistance of the battery in the electric vehicle.
